You Are Invited

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

From time to time, opportunities arise for you and me to effect change on a more monumental level. Such an opportunity has arisen here at St. Mary’s for our school, and I would like to invite you to join your fellow parishioners in making history.

St. Mary’s has been educating young minds since 1900, thanks to our past cherished religious Sisters. Our current parish school and its facilities were opened in September of 1955. Since then, we have had a modest expansion of its buildings, which have served us incredibly well over these past sixty-seven years. We continue to improve and maintain these important structures. However, state-of-the-art robotics, computer coding, and cyber security were not even words back in 1955, and so these buildings are woefully inadequate for our future needs.

A short time back, our beloved St. Mary’s School was gifted with an exceptionally generous donation of $3.5 million dollars by Pam and Rob Johnston as “seed money” for the building of a new wing for the school dedicated to the latest in science and engineering. Since then, many others have already added over $1 million more to this tremendous donation – wow! However, we need your help to raise an additional $2 million.

This is such an incredible opportunity. One thing is sure: While what we have had has served us well in the past, the future requires us to make a step change. Our new St. Mary’s Science and Engineering Academy wing will be a game changer for the future of our children. This much-needed facility will allow our young men and women to delve more deeply into the mind of God and His creation, while also preparing them for a future full of possibilities that you and I may not have even imagined. When I say “much-needed,” I mean indispensable if we hope to prepare adequately our children today for the future ahead. And, as a parish family, these are all truly our children. Also, as the city of Augusta is striving to become the Cyber Security capital of the nation, our parish is very well placed.

Please mark your calendars for next weekend, September 24 and 25, to attend a brief parish Town Hall meeting in St. Angela Hall after each of our five weekend Masses. Here, you will be able to find out more details about the facility and our school’s need as well as ask questions to help you in deciding to accept this invitation to effect real, substantial change for our children’s future. Thank you! Looking ahead, please pray for all our priests as we go to Charleston for our annual priest retreat, September 26 – 29. Msgr. Willie is graciously covering most Masses while we are away. However, please note the following changes to the Mass schedule that week: No Mass 6:30am Tuesday, Sep 27; no Mass in Spanish, 7:00pm Wed, Sep 28. Let us pray for each other!
