Our Good Shepard

04-25-2021Pastor's LetterRev. Gregory B. Wilson

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Traditionally, this Fourth Sunday of Easter is Good Shepherd Sunday. We need a guide in our troubled world. May we, as His sheep, always open our hearts and minds to the true paths laid out by our Good Shepherd.

This Tuesday, April 27 at 7:00pm, we welcome our Bishop, the Most Rev. Robert Guglielmone, to our parish for the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please pray for our over fifty young men and women who will receive this important Sacrament, bestowing upon them the fullness of the Holy Spirit just as He came down upon the disciples at Pentecost. Please pray also for our Bishop and for his great ministry among us as chief shepherd.

Just a few days following Confirmation, dozens of our children will receive Jesus’ Body and Blood at the First Holy Communion Mass on Saturday, May 1 at 10:00am. These young folks have prepared diligently for this most important encounter with Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament, including “cleaning up” their temples through the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession. Please pray that they – and we – always receive Our Lord with the excitement and wonder of our First Holy Communion.

The following day, Sunday, May 2, these young men and women will be our special guests for our annual May Crowning at the end of the 11:00am Mass. Unfortunately, we will have to forego our annual May Procession and Parish Picnic until next year. Let’s plan now to have a joyful, fun, and faith-filled procession and all-parish gathering next May when, God-willing, we can gather freely once again in large numbers.

A couple of changes to note: First, a restoration. You might recall that before March of last year, we had a very early weekly Mass at 6:30am. Beginning the third Tuesday of May (the 18th), we will restore this Mass to our schedule. For now, it will be the only Mass in Old St. Mary’s. (Please note the location!) Glad to make all you early birds happy!

Change #2: Beginning May 1, we will transition away from a post office box to receiving all mail at the official street address of the parish office, 203 Park Ave. SE, Aiken, SC 29801. Please make this change now in your address books/contacts. As you write the address, please be sure to include the all-important “SE” meaning “Southeast” after the street number. Note also the proper ZIP code: 20801.

I’d like to make a plea on behalf of our usher ministry at our English Masses. Our ushers are so important to our hospitality, especially as we are nearing (sometimes exceeding!) our pre-virus attendance numbers. If you can volunteer, please contact Maryann Burgess at 803-439-0468 or email at garnetgirlmb@gmail.com. We need you!

Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen! Alleluia!

¡Aleluya!

Padre Wilson
