Built of Living Stones

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“The anniversary of a church’s dedication is celebrated with the rank of a solemnity.” – Roman Pontifical, Rite of Dedication of a Church, 27.

Each year, Holy Mother Church invites us to recall the day our church buildings were consecrated and dedicated to divine worship. So many of you made the building of this marvelous place possible through significant prayer and sacrifice only six years ago. The twelve consecration candles surrounding the inside of the church will be lighted for our Masses. These symbolize the twelve gates of the new and heavenly Jerusalem – the Church as the Mystical Body and spotless bride of Christ. The crosses below them are where the Bishop anointed the walls with the sacred chrism oil, as you and I are anointed at Confirmation.

As I am fond of saying, the true beauty of any church, of course, is found in her baptized members of the Mystical Body of Christ, of which our church building is a beautiful symbol and has an important function. It is here in this building that you and I are formed to be the living Church as His Body and where we receive His saving Sacraments. Jesus is the Head and we, the baptized, are the Body (see 1 Cor. 12:12-26).

This weekend we also kickoff the 2021 Bishop’s Annual Appeal (BAA). The diocesan programs and ministries supported by the BAA accomplish critically important work. Just some of those funded include Catholic Charities, Catholic Schools, Vocations, Retired Priests, Youth and Young Adult Ministries and so many more.

Through the BAA, we are challenged to look beyond our own parish boundaries and consider the broader mission of the Church. Each parish in the diocese is asked to join together in our common mission – the proclamation of the Gospel. With an overall goal of $4 million dollars, our parish target is $108,958. We will receive back 50% of anything over our goal.

The needs throughout the diocese in the past year have grown exponentially and our support is more important now than ever before. Please take five minutes to watch the BAA video, found on the parish website, to learn more about it.

I join together with you in offering my own sacrificial gift. You will hear more about the Appeal over the next few weeks and will be receiving an invitation from Bishop Guglielmone in the mail during the first week of February.

May God bless you and your families for your sacrifice and generosity. And may we, the Church, continue to grow and fulfill our common mission.

Yours in Christ,
Father Wilson

Padre Wilson
