Since Home Works began in 1996, more than 38,000 volunteers have joined to repair homes of and bring hope to more than 2,600 homeowners, typically individuals retired or disabled and living on less than $12,000 per year. Volunteers include youth and adults, skilled and unskilled, from a variety of faith backgrounds and organizations. Repairs are done at no cost to homeowners and are funded by hundreds of individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors. Home Works is also a United Way agency. Repairs are often done in collaboration with city and county governments.
St Mary’s supports the program by conducting a summer session for a week and a spring blitz for 1-2 days. Volunteers can sign up for any of the Home Works sessions. They are conducted all summer and certain blitz days throughout the year. Applications can be found on their website.
