Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Jan 18 - Jan 25 Parish Activities

Unity among Christians is an important element of evangelizing the world. Jesus prayed, on the night before He died, that all His followers would be united so that the world would know that the Father sent Him (John 17).

Prayer is the first and most important means of bringing about Christian unity. The International Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is conducted every year. This year the Week of Prayer begins on Thu, Jan 18, the Feast of the Confession of St Peter, and ends on Thu, Jan 25, the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul.

St. Mary's Help of Christians Parish will conduct prayers for Christian Unity at all Masses during the Week of Prayer. Pamphlets giving daily Bible readings and prayers for the week will be available in English and Spanish after all masses on Jan 13/14. Parishioners are encouraged to use these readings and prayers throughout the Week of Prayer.

We are also planning a joint prayer service with St Paul Lutheran Church, similar to the joint Prayer Service conducted by Pope Francis and Lutheran Bishop Munib A. Younan in Sweden in October, 2016. The prayer services are intended to commemorate the Reformation and the great progress towardunity that has been made between Lutherans and Catholics
