"Have You Ever Thought About..."

07-26-2020Pastor's LetterFather Gregory Wilson

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Last weekend we said farewell to our summer seminarian, Justin Damask. It’s been wonderful to be part of his seminary formation, even in this most unusual of summers. Thank you for welcoming Justin. A message from Justin is included in the bulletin along with his address, if you’d like to drop him a note or a cookie. Please continue to pray and actively work for more priestly vocations. My own started with the simple question from a wonderful woman in my parish, “Have you ever thought of becoming a priest?” I am certain that there are many religious vocations of all kinds here at St. Mary’s. They just need our help to make a confident “Yes!” as the Virgin Mary did to God’s plan for her – and, ultimately, for the salvation of the world.

Still, on the topic of vocations, a wonderful young lady from our parish, Anastasia Pierce (Deacon Bob and Donna Pierce’s daughter), has long been considering a vocation to the marvelous Little Sisters of the Poor. See the note from her below asking for your prayers as she enters the next, more intense phase of her continued discernment. And let us pray always for each other!

------------------------------------

Hello everyone, my name is Anastasia Pierce. I would like to thank Fr. Wilson for this opportunity to write. I will be moving to Delaware in August in order to work as a CNA for the Little Sisters of the Poor. I first met the Little Sisters in Washington, DC, when I worked for them as an intern back in 2018. Since then, I have been discerning my vocation with them. They have asked me to work in Delaware for a year in order to learn more about the apostolate. If that year goes well, then I will enter as a postulant in the fall of 2021.

The Little Sisters were founded in France by St. Jeanne Jugan. They serve the elderly poor by providing loving, compassionate care in their nursing home facilities. Many of you may not know this, but Mother Teresa actually trained with the Little Sisters before starting the Missionaries of Charity. They have houses all over the world, including 29 homes in the US. God is drawing me to Himself. I feel He is wanting me to join this Order in order to serve Him, the elderly poor, the Church, and my country. I also want to enter religious life so I can be an instrument for the salvation of souls.

I have greatly appreciated your prayers for me over the years. I do not know what I would do without them. I am asking you to continue to pray for me as I begin this preparation for my possible future entrance. Also I ask you to pray for more vocations to the Order, from the parish, and worldwide. God hears your prayers. I am constantly praying for all of you as well.

In Christ,

Anastasia (Stasia) Pierce
